Code of Conduct
The code of conduct as written below applies to all Smash Club events including those put on in collaboration with other organizations or entities
Professionalism and Respect
These events have been put on with the expectation of professionalism from all attendees. We will strive to ensure that SHCL Smash Club events are a safe space for everyone.
The following ethical and professional principles serve as the basis of our event coordination:
1. We would like all participants to feel safe and welcome. Social inclusion and acceptance as well as accessibility are dear aspects to us.
2. These events (Super Smash Bros. included) are put on for the sake of fun and enjoyment. We expect anyone involved in the event’s proceedings to maintain professionalism and respect and to treat others fairly and respectfully.
3. As organizers, we aim to ensure that our conduct is held at a high professional standard. We will ensure that we are running the tournament with the above principles in mind
4. When conduct or behavior occurs that goes against the rules outlined in this section, we will take appropriate action. We also invite participants to bring concerns to our attention so that we can better ensure a safe environment.
The SHCL Smash Club does not permit discrimination of any kind, regardless of age, sex, gender, race, ethnicity, religious beliefs, sexual orientation, disabilities, marital status, socioeconomic status, etc. Our tournament organizers will be ensuring that all competitors can feel safe and comfortable during the proceedings of the event.
The following list entails disciplinary action that will be enforced should the situations arise:

Abuse/Harassment, including but not limited to: attempted physical violence resulting in damage or injury, verbal or physical intimidation/threats, or any general objectively offensive behaviors. Heckling of players is also forbidden.

Sexual Harassment, including but not limited to: unwanted physical contact, sexual advances, nasty remarks, inappropriate sexual gestures, invading someone’s private space, stalking, and/or display of sexual material.

Engaging in sexual behavior with a minor below 18 years of age as someone over the age of 18. Any persons found guilty of illegal activity will not be tolerated and will be held accountable according to Alberta law.

Inappropriately using legal drugs, narcotic chemicals or alcohol while attending the events (including being under the influence)

1. Any use of alcohol or drugs by persons under the age of 18 is strictly prohibited. Consumption of alcohol on the premises of the event is not permitted. There are appropriate venues around the convention where alcohol may be legally consumed, but it will not be allowed within the tournament space.

2. Smoking or legal substance use of any kind is to be conducted in designated areas outside the venue and will not be tolerated inside the tournament space.

3. Any persons found guilty of unsportsmanlike behavior while under the influence will not be tolerated.

4. Inappropriate usage will be dealt with at the tournament organizers’ discretion; this may include warnings, immediate ejection from the event space, or suspensions.

Mistreatment resulting in damage of the provided equipment, such as but not limited to game consoles, controllers, monitors, headphones, tables, chairs, etc., or mistreatment resulting in damage of the event space. This will result in immediate ejection from the premises.

The display of words or depictions that are vulgar, offensive, or defamatory will not be tolerated. This includes but is not limited to articles of clothing, gamer tags, etc. This will be determined at the discretion of the tournament organizers.

Cheating, including but not limited to collusion affecting the outcome of a match, interfering with the opposing player, engaging in mid-set coaching, using turbo controllers, or modifying the game to gain an unfair advantage.

Gambling or betting money on the event’s matches is not allowed whatsoever. Maintain competitive integrity.
If players are observed to elicit any of the behavior listed in this section, behavior that would directly violate the event premise’s rules, or if behavior is perceived to be problematic, the tournament organizers will be investigating the matter on-site and enforcing disciplinary action. Other unsportsmanlike conduct that is not covered by the following provisions should be brought to the attention of the tournament organizers, and appropriate disciplinary action will be taken. Extremely inappropriate behavior will result in the forfeit of bracket competition, prizing, or both. Please be respectful of all competitors, and treat everyone with respect and dignity
