SHCL Smash Club Code of Conduct

This Code of Conduct applies exclusively to SHCL Smash Club events, including those organized in collaboration with other entities. It sets expectations for behavior within the tournament environment to ensure an enjoyable, professional, and respectful space for all attendees.

This Code does not apply to private settings or conduct outside of event spaces. However, should off-site behavior directly impact the safety or integrity of our events, it may be considered at the discretion of the tournament organizers.

 

Professionalism and Respect

 

SHCL Smash Club events are designed to be safe, inclusive, and enjoyable for all participants. The following principles guide our event coordination:

  1. Inclusive Environment – We strive to create a space where all players feel welcome. Discrimination, harassment, or exclusion based on personal characteristics will not be tolerated.

  2. Respect and Sportsmanship – These events are meant for fun and fair competition. All attendees are expected to conduct themselves professionally, treating others with respect and fairness.

  3. Organizer Responsibility – Tournament organizers will uphold a high standard of professionalism and ensure the event runs in alignment with these values.

  4. Reporting Concerns – If an attendee experiences or witnesses inappropriate behavior, they are encouraged to report it to event staff for prompt action.

 

Prohibited Conduct and Consequences

 

The following actions are not permitted at SHCL Smash Club events. Violations will result in disciplinary measures at the discretion of the tournament organizers.

1. Harassment & Abuse

  • Physical or verbal abuse, intimidation, or threats.

  • Sexual harassment, including unwelcome advances, inappropriate comments, or non-consensual physical contact.

  • Excessive or hostile heckling that crosses into harassment, intimidation, or targeted bullying will not be tolerated. Friendly, competitive banter is fine, but it should not be aggressive, personal, or disruptive to the event.

2. Illegal or Inappropriate Substance Use

  • No drug or alcohol use by attendees under 18.

  • No alcohol consumption in the tournament space (venues with licensed areas may have designated spaces).

  • No smoking, vaping, or substance use inside the venue—only in designated areas outside.

  • Unsportsmanlike behavior while under the influence will not be tolerated.

3. Damage & Property Misuse

  • Intentional damage to venue property, tournament equipment, or other players’ belongings.

  • Violators will be held financially responsible and may be ejected immediately.

4. Offensive or Inappropriate Content

  • Displaying offensive, vulgar, or defamatory content, including on clothing, gamer tags, or personal belongings.

  • Content deemed inappropriate is at the discretion of tournament organizers.

5. Cheating & Competitive Integrity

  • Cheating of any kind, including collusion, external coaching, game modification, or use of unfair hardware.

  • Gambling or match-fixing is strictly prohibited.

6. Extreme Misconduct

  • Engaging in any criminal behavior during the event will lead to immediate expulsion and potential legal action.

  • Sexual activity with a minor (under 18) in violation of Canadian law (e.g., exploitative relationships, authority figures, or circumstances involving coercion) is strictly prohibited and will be reported to the appropriate authorities.

Enforcement & Reporting

Tournament organizers reserve the right to investigate incidents and enforce disciplinary action, including:

  • Warnings

  • Match forfeits

  • Ejection from the venue

  • Suspension from future events

​

Attendees should report violations to tournament staff. Extreme misconduct may result in forfeiture of bracket placement and prizing.

By participating in SHCL Smash Club events, you agree to abide by this Code of Conduct and contribute to a welcoming and competitive environment.
